Ascension weekend with the family on the Ile de Ré: a salty interlude at La Plage campsite

TheAscension Bridge is one of those special moments of the year when you can finally take a breather, get together and share some time together. At this time of year, the island of Ré already reveals its first summer colors, soft light, beaches and peaceful atmosphere. For families in search of a well-deserved break, our La Plage campsite in Saint-Clément-des-Baleines (at the foot of the mythical Phare des Baleines!) is the ideal base for an extended weekend between late May and early June.
By choosing this unique setting, you can offer your little family a stay in the heart of nature, just a stone’s throw from one of the island’s most beautiful beaches: Plage de la Conche. Access is via a pedestrian path, perfect for getting there with the kids, in a stroller or on a bike!
Once on site, you’ll discover a campsite designed for young and old alike, with a variety of accommodation options: traditional pitches for nature camping enthusiasts or fully-equipped mobile homes, some with private Jacuzzis. It’s a great way to combine authenticity and comfort, and keep your little ones happy!
During the Ascension weekend, all our facilities are already fully open. The heated outdoor swimming pool and paddling pool allow children to splash about in complete safety, while parents enjoy a well-deserved moment of relaxation in water at an ideal temperature. The wellness area with sauna and hammam is also available for a moment to yourself. On the leisure side, the multi-sports ground and play areas let the youngsters let off steam, while the teens enjoy a game of soccer or basketball. And as this weekend is also our first weekend of entertainment, we’ve got a few surprises in store: a small tournament for the whole family during the day, a convivial evening at the campsite… Let yourself be lulled by the light-hearted atmosphere, perfect for getting into the mood for the summer vacations that are just around the corner!
On site, everything is done so that families can put down their suitcases and enjoy their stay without constraints. The restaurant/snack bar, open at this time of year, offers simple dishes suitable for all ages, and the bike hire service – with equipment for young and old – means you can go for a ride whenever you feel like getting away from it all. This extended weekend becomes a true parenthesis, where you can live to the rhythm of the sun and your own desires, without stress!
The island of Ré for the whole family: adventure and exploration by bike for fun discoveries
The great thing about a stay at La Plage campsite is that once you’ve settled in, everything becomes a pretext foradventure ! From the campsite, cycle paths open the door to the sublime landscapes of theIle de Ré, to be explored with the whole family. As soon as you start pedaling, you’ll be riding along beaches and through pine forests, and before you know it, you’ll reach Ars-en-Ré or Les Portes-en-Ré, two typical white villages with preserved charm, perfect for a gourmet stopover or a leisurely stroll. The island’s bicycle network is particularly safe, so that children can pedal with confidence, and parents can enjoy these shared moments to the full.
For the curious, or those who like to combine pleasure and discovery, the salt marshes are a must-see. Just a few kilometers away, you can visit a working saltworks, observe the birds that populate these unique landscapes, and learn all about this ancestral know-how as a family! An activity that’s as beautiful as it is instructive, and appeals to adults and children alike. Another idea for anadventure: a trip to the Phare des Baleines, literally a stone’s throw from the campsite. Climb the steps together, admire the breathtaking ocean views, and immortalize the moment at the top by imagining yourself as the lighthouse keeper! Right next door, the museum offers a simple and accessible tour to complete the outing.
And of course, La Conche beach remains a limitless playground for the whole family. Whether you’ve come to play in the sand, dip your feet in the water, try to avoid the waves or simply enjoy a picnic in the sun, there’s something for everyone.
It’s a chance to take time out from our everyday lives to play games: fly a kite, build a sandcastle, collect shells… Simple but unforgettable activities, in a breathtaking natural setting.
