Lilleau des Niges National Nature Reserve
The Réserve Naturelle Nationale de Lilleau des Niges is located in the heart of the Fier d'Ars, north of the Île-de-Ré. Its former salt marshes and mudflats make it a prized territory for birds, which find everything they need to live in harmony with nature. An ideal observation site for budding ornithologists and the curious, we encourage you to come and discover, on foot or by bike, the wealth of this superb reserve managed by the Ligue pour la Protection des Oiseaux (League for the Protection of Birds).

The perfect spot for birdwatching on the Ile de Ré
More than 300 species of birds live more or less regularly on the Ile de Ré. The Réserve Naturelle Nationale de Lilleau des Niges is an ideal spot to observe them in complete tranquillity. The Ligue pour la Protection des Oiseaux organizes guided walks to maximize your chances of contemplating and photographing the more discreet bird species. What better way to perfect your ornithological knowledge! Some of these numerous birds are in fact migratory birds that come to stay near our campsite on the Ile de Ré from August onwards, before setting off again for new adventures on another continent.

Saint-Étienne church
In the landscape ofArs-en-RéIn the Ars-en-Ré landscape, a curious black-and-white point stands out in the sky, making it easy to identify the church of Saint-Étienne, even from several kilometers away. This 40-metre-high religious edifice is a distinctive feature of Ars-en-Ré, and was once used as a landmark for boats at sea before the island's lighthouses were built.
On closer inspection, you'll see architectural elements that are characteristic of both Romanesque and Gothic styles, despite the number of centuries that separate them. Not surprising, given that the church has undergone several changes and extensions over the centuries, most recently in the 15th century.
Today, the building is listed as a historic monument and is one of the two oldest on the island. Lovers of old stones and history will be able to discover what goes on behind the scenes with a visit to the belfry and admire the breathtaking view over the rooftops of Ars-en-Ré and the surrounding area.
