Les-Portes-en-Ré

Les Portes-en-Ré welcomes you to its nature reserve and rich biodiversity. Whether you want to experience nature or simply want to relax, you will love the beauty of the natural heritage. Exceptional fauna and flora, cultural sites and beaches will set the pace of your time in Les Portes-en-Ré.

The Nature Researve of Lilleau des Niges

It’s not worth taking your car to the Nature Reserve of Lilleau des Niges, as only pedestrians and cyclists are allowed there. A pair of binoculars would be useful though, to observe the hundred or so species of migratory birds you may see.

Once you have explored the reserve, you can continue your visit to the Maison du Fiers where you can find out more about the local fauna and flora. As you stroll along, stop at the Ferme des Baleines to discover the fascinating world of aquaculture.

Famous beaches

The island’s most beautiful beaches are in the north. They include the Trousse Chemise, immortalised in song by Charles Aznavour, and the 3 km long Conche des Baleines extending to the “Phare des baleines”. Water sports enthusiasts have Le Bec and Lizay beaches, one of the island’s 3 well-known surfing spots.
