There's no need to take the car to get to the Lilleau des Niges bird sanctuary. Lilleau des NigesOnly pedestrians and cyclists are allowed. However, a pair of binoculars will be very useful for observing the hundred or so species of migratory birds during your walk.
Once you've explored the reserve, you can continue your visit to the Proud House, where you can learn a little more about the local flora and fauna. Along the way, stop off at the whale farm to discover the fascinating world of aquaculture.

Famous beaches on the Ile de Ré
The north of the island is particularly well known for its concentration of some of the most beautiful beaches on theIle de Ré. These include the family beach of Trousse chemise, which Charles Aznavour wrote a song about, and the 3-kilometer-long Conche des baleines, which stretches as far as the Phare des baleines. Water sports enthusiasts can head to Plage du Bec and Plage du Lizay, two of the island's 3 renowned surf spots.
